Be still...

...my writer-geek, ephemera-craving heart: Typewriter Ribbon Tin Collection. Writing-related AND with gorgeous graphic design. Ooh la la.

During our last visit to the local antique shop I put Julie on notice that I have an eye out for a vintage manual typewriter to be acquired for purely aesthetic, dust-gathering purposes. Picking up a few of these beauties might keep me sated for a while until that perfect Royal or Underwood comes along.

That is a real beauty. Growing up, we had two black Underwoods. I wish I still had them.

My family also had an old typewriter, maybe a Royal, probably from the 1930s. My dad brought it home from the office one day, and I did a fair amount of writing on it. But it ultimately found its way to the dark depths of our crawlspace and was eventually discarded without my knowledge. (I was probably away at college.) I never would have let that one get away had I known beforehand. Sigh.

If I had to guess, I'd say ours came from the 30s, too. My mom sold them in a 1970s garage sale. Ar. One was somewhat tall. The other was more on the squat side and mounted in a desk compartment that pulled open. It's hard to explain. The middle front top of the desk lifted up (flipped up) to reveal the typewriter. Then, you could put it back down to have a flat writing surface. Amazingly, I have the desk.
