"...their finest moments while sitting..."

Mike Royko, on just one of the reasons that sitting is superior to running:
The greatest minds in the history of civilization have had their finest moments while sitting. You name one great piece of music written while running, one great book, one great anything. While running, you don't have time to think because you are breathing so hard and worrying about some mugger tripping you and wondering if that pain in your chest is something serious or just gas.
That said, I fully intend to spend less time on the couch in the coming year.

Hmmmmm... that caveat tacked on the end sounds good, however, it worries me that you are searching out passages which glorify sitting.

Royko wasn't really glorifying that (nor do I): the piece was very tongue-in-cheek (the narrator was the fictional Joe Spinecurve) and Royko really played it up for its comic value. I think he was actually a runner himself.
