WBEZ reports on the A.J. Thomas Midwest Cash Register Company, which is closing shop after 120 years in business. End of an era. Not sure if there are other cash register dealers still around the city, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last one.

I suppose that the experience of operating or even seeing a real cash register will become (or already is) another dividing line in time. I always liked being able to watch a cashier who could touchtype, so to speak, and I enjoyed running a register (with much less grace and skill) during my college years.

Paul, you're absolutely right. Though without the Internet, I would be even more socially disconnected than I am now - to my detriment.
