Life imitates art

This touching letter strikes me on two levels - first, that the (likely heartbroken) recipient could so casually cast it off inside a book (The Remains of the Day) that was sold to a used bookstore; and second, how easily the letter could have been written by Mr. Stevens to Miss Kenton (the two main characters of Ishiguro's great novel) had Stevens been able to communicate so openly. Though I suspect he would have destroyed such a letter before it was ever sent.
