Progress in public education, at last?

The Obama administration on Saturday called for a broad overhaul of President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind law, proposing to reshape divisive provisions that encouraged instructors to teach to tests, narrowed the curriculum, and labeled one in three American schools as failing.

Though NCLB did institute much-needed standards for holding educators accountable for student performance, I've always been concerned about its emphasis on standardized testing and narrow curriculum. Seems like we've been moving dangerously close to our students becoming mere test-takers instead of true learners, which I'm hoping Obama's proposal will correct.
